The Long Table
Four places set along one wooden table, and a habit waiting at each of them. We make tables for a living. These are the things our customers past fifty tell us happen around them, and what we have learned about keeping a crowded mind tidy.
- Seat 1Chairs pulled outA weekly meal with more chairs than you need, and a story picked up again seven days later.
- Seat 2The shallow drawerOne home each for glasses, keys and the evening pills, so the searching stops.
- Seat 3The extra leafTwenty minutes, three times a week, on something new and slightly hard.
- Seat 4Sunday waxTen minutes at the table to close the week's open loops and choose three things.

Why a table
A long table is the one piece of furniture in a home that is designed for more than one person to use at once. Conversation, sorting the mail, a new hobby spread out across the boards, the Sunday look at the calendar: most of what keeps a household's head in order happens on top of it. None of these pages is medical advice, and each one ends with a note meant for your doctor.
