Wooden tables and chairs · Santa Bárbara d'Oeste, Brazil

Long before it stands in a dining room, every table stands on a sheet full of dimension lines.

20Wood Furniture is the furniture plant of So Mesas So Cadeiras, located in the industrial district of Santa Bárbara d'Oeste, in the state of São Paulo. It builds tables, chairs and matching sets in which wood is the main material.

This page borrows the layout of a technical drawing, since that is how a piece begins here: height, width, depth, and the gap between the tabletop and the knees of whoever sits down.

The figures in the drawing are ordinary ergonomic references, quoted to explain the method. Every order gets dimensions of its own.

Three drawings from the production line

Whatever leaves the shed fits into three families. None of them is a showroom item with fixed measurements: size, quantity and finish are settled with the person placing the order.

From the assembly bench to the buyer's door

Besides making furniture, the company is registered for road freight, inside the city and on to other towns and states. That is why the journey of each piece is treated as the last dimension of the project.

Proportions behind the first pencil line

Before an order turns into a drawing of its own, the work starts from proportions most people already know from home. They are a starting point, never a promised size.

Everyday proportions, looked up at the start of each project
DimensionUsual referenceWhy it matters
Tabletop heightaround 75 cm off the floorlets the elbows rest without lifting the shoulders
Seat heightaround 45 cm off the floorkeeps the feet flat and the knees bent at an easy angle
Clearance under the topfree room for the legsstops the table rail from pressing on the thighs

How to ask for a drawing

Tell us which piece you are after, roughly how many units, and the town it has to reach. With that, the team can say whether the order fits the line and how the haulage would work.
